Sweet baby Aubrey kept me on my toes that day! Mama texted me around 9:30 am that her water broke at her doctor appointment. She was only 3 centimeters so she decided to run home and grab her and her husband's bags to head to labor and delivery. She informed me she would keep me updated once she got there.
A few hours go by and I hadn't heard from her so I checked in around 1 pm. She forgot to text me but was all set up in her room and still 3cm. I gave her more space and time to labor. Second time moms tend to deliver faster than their first birth, so I had a gut feeling it wouldn't be much longer.
Around 6;30 or 7 pm, she texted me that she was finally at 6 cm!! This is my que to head to the hospital. As I was walking out the door exactly 30 minutes later, I get another text. SHE SUDDENLY WAS 9.5 CENTIMETERS DILATED! I sped down the interstate to get to her in time. This was a surprise gender birth and I did NOT want to miss this. I arrived exactly 15 minutes later. The staff at Oschner Medical Center welcomed me along with mom and dad. We were all giddy and excited for this baby to be born!
The team asked for final guesses and everyone said boy. I said, "every surprise birth I have attended has been a girl, so I'm team girl!" We laughed and talked another 30 minutes in between mom's pushes.
At 8:31 pm, baby finally arrived! PHEW talk about made it just in time lol! And guess what baby number 2 was?
IT"S A GIRL!!!
I want to give a huge thank you to mom and dad for having me their to document that special moment. I also want to give a HUGE shoutout to the midwives and nurses at Oschner Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA. They are always so welcoming and amazing to work alongside with. I hope to attend many more births at this hospital!
